Mask Transformations Guide
Complete guide to all 4 mask forms — Boar, Slime, Tengu, and Yuki-onna — with abilities, unlock conditions, and best uses for each.
Yokai Mask Transformations
The mask transformation system is the defining feature of Tales of Seikyu. Each mask grants a yokai form with unique combat and exploration abilities. Mastering all four forms is essential to completing the game.
How Transformations Work
- Press the transformation button to switch between human and yokai form
- Each form has unique attacks and abilities
- Transformations consume stamina for special moves
- You can switch forms mid-combat for combo strategies
- Some areas and puzzles require a specific form to progress
Boar Form
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Color | Amber |
| Primary Role | Combat & Farming |
| Unlock | Story intro quest (automatic) |
| Key Ability | Charge attack |
# Abilities
- Charge Attack: Rush forward dealing massive damage and breaking enemy guards. Also tills a 3x3 area of soil on your farm.
- Increased Strength: Base attack power is higher in Boar form.
- Ground Pound: AoE slam that staggers nearby enemies.
# Best Uses
- Breaking Anji's guard in Fox Ruins (he's weak to Boar)
- Tilling large farm plots quickly — saves hours over the season
- Charging through groups of weak enemies
- Breaking destructible walls and obstacles in dungeons
# Tips
- The charge has a short wind-up — don't start it while an enemy is mid-attack
- Aim charges carefully to till the exact squares you want
- Combine with two-handed weapons for maximum damage on charge follow-ups
Slime Form
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Color | Blue |
| Primary Role | Combat & Farming |
| Unlock | Defeat the Fox Ruins boss |
| Key Ability | Squeeze through gaps |
# Abilities
- Squeeze Through: Pass through narrow gaps and vents inaccessible to other forms.
- Reduced Hitbox: Much smaller target, making dodging significantly easier.
- Acid Touch: Slower attacks but apply a damage-over-time effect.
# Best Uses
- Countering Red Oni enemies (they're weak to Slime)
- Navigating Fujiki's attack patterns in the Fox Ruins boss fight
- Reaching hidden areas behind narrow passages in dungeons
- Escaping when cornered by multiple enemies
# Tips
- Slime form deals less raw damage — use it for evasion, then switch to attack
- The DoT effect stacks — rapid weak hits can out-damage single strong ones
- Always check narrow gaps for hidden treasure rooms
Tengu Form
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Color | Purple |
| Primary Role | Exploration & Combat |
| Unlock | Defeat Fujiki (Fox Ruins final boss) |
| Key Ability | Flight |
# Abilities
- Flight: Hover and fly over gaps, water, and ground hazards.
- Aerial Attacks: Dive-bomb and wind slash attacks from above.
- Wind Gust: Push objects and enemies with wind-based attacks.
# Best Uses
- Crossing gaps and reaching elevated platforms in dungeons
- Avoiding ground-based AOE attacks during combat
- Exploring the map — fly to otherwise inaccessible areas
- Wind Gust for puzzles requiring pushing objects from a distance
# Tips
- Flight drains stamina — watch your bar during extended aerial sequences
- Aerial attacks deal bonus damage but are risky if you run out of stamina mid-air
- Use flight to skip difficult ground combat sections in Fox Ruins
- The Tengu form is the best exploration tool in the game
Yuki-onna Form
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Color | Cyan |
| Primary Role | Ice Abilities |
| Unlock | Later in the story (post-Fox Ruins) |
| Key Ability | Ice attacks and freezing |
# Abilities
- Freeze: Temporarily freeze enemies in place.
- Ice Path: Create ice platforms on water.
- Blizzard: AoE slow effect on all nearby enemies.
# Best Uses
- Crowd control — freeze dangerous enemies and focus others
- Creating paths across water without a bridge
- Slowing boss attack speed with Blizzard
- Solving ice-themed puzzles in late-game dungeons
# Tips
- Frozen enemies take increased damage from the next hit — freeze then smash
- Ice Path is temporary — move quickly across water
- Blizzard's slow is invaluable in multi-enemy encounters
- Yuki-onna has lower defense — don't stay in this form when taking hits
Form Switching Combos
Advanced players should practice switching forms mid-combat:
- Freeze (Yuki-onna) > Charge (Boar) — Freeze a target, then charge for bonus damage
- Squeeze (Slime) > Aerial Dive (Tengu) — Escape a crowd, then attack from above
- Blizzard (Yuki-onna) > DoT (Slime) — Slow enemies and stack acid damage
- Charge (Boar) > Fly (Tengu) — Break a guard, then fly to safety
Experiment to find what works for your playstyle.
